Lakeview Hospital earns top ratings

BOUNTIFUL -- HealthGrades, a leading independent ratings organization, has rated Lakeview Hospital as No. 1 in Utah for overall orthopedic services.

Lakeview Hospital recently broke ground on a $3 million project that will expand the emergency department to 15 beds, with the ability to flex up to 20 beds as needed. Completion of the expansion is expected by September.

Lakeview Hospital expansion under way

BOUNTIFUL — Lakeview Hospital is expanding its emergency room to accommodate more patients and allow for more privacy.

The hospital broke ground on the $3 million project on Friday and expects it to be completed by September.

The new emergency department will have 15 beds with the ability to flex up to 20 beds as needed, said Emergency Department director Bernadette Waldrop. Right now, the department has 10 beds with the ability to flex to 12 beds as needed.

Ellen Ada Challis died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at the Aspen Care Center in Ogden. Her husband, William Henry Charles Challis, died in his sleep Aug. 22, 2010, also at Aspen Care Center. A series of crashes on Interstate 15 under the Parrish Lane bridge on Saturday involved 17 vehicles. Two men were transported to Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful with minor injuries. Traffic was backed up for several miles as vehicles were diverted off the freeway. Troopers say factors contributing to the crash included driving too fast for conditions and following too closely.

Chain-reaction crash under Parrish Lane bridge damages 17 vehicles

CENTERVILLE -- A three-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 15 about 1 p.m. Saturday started a chain reaction that eventually ended with five crashes involving a total of 17 vehicles, police say.

The freeway was closed for two hours while emergency workers responded to the incident near Parrish Lane.

BOUNTIFUL -- Lakeview Hospital has received the Stroke Bronze Quality Achievement Award for its commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care for patients.

The American Heart and American Stroke Association's "Get With the Guidelines" presented the award to the hospital for consistently following its treatment guidelines and stroke program for 90 days.
