PLEASANT VIEW — Concerns about children’s safety have surfaced regarding the way a walking path ends on Pleasant View Drive.

Two former council members, Mae Ferguson and Tim Hjorten, recently brought pictures to city officials to illustrate their concerns.

Utah State will host the group’s 2015 conference.

Syracuse council gives OK to trail landscaping plan

SYRACUSE -- City leaders have resolved a dispute over landscaping on a trail near the Trailside Park cluster subdivision on the city's south side.

The dispute, which dates back to 2006, centered on whether a developer or the city had the responsibility to install landscaping improvements along the trail component of the Michael Moyes Trailside Park adjacent to Trailside Park.

You can enjoy the special sight and sound of a waterfall right at home without worrying about constant maintenance, thanks to the popular pondless waterfall that operates with one switch and a filter that is good for years. They’re available in a range of sizes and prices to please any homeowner.

Pondless waterfalls reduce cost, maintenance

If you’re dreaming of a waterfall, you may be glad to know there is an option that costs less than most and is easier to maintain.

“Most people are doing pondless waterfalls. They are low maintenance. You get the sound but no maintenance. They’re also cheaper than a full-blown waterfall,” said Kody Thompson, owner of KBT Waterfalls in South Weber.

Thompson said a waterfall will increase the value and enjoyment of a home, but a waterfall with a pond also increases maintenance.

Edible landscaping takes food plants beyond bounds of vegetable patch

Food plants have jumped the fence from the kitchen garden.

They’re making their way into the landscape, doing double duty as both food sources and things of beauty.

It’s a movement called edible landscaping, and there’s good reason for it, advocates say. Edible landscaping encourages and simplifies local food production, with all its health and environmental benefits.

Dumpster 'parkmobiles' on a roll in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO -- The greatest park in San Francisco arguably is Golden Gate -- 1,017 sweeping acres studded with playgrounds and windmills, lakes and museums, a Shakespeare garden, a brew pub and its very own herd of bison.

No one could argue that the latest green spaces to grace The City are a far more modest proposal. The two bright-red dumpsters, 16 feet long by nearly 6 feet wide and filled with greenery, have been placed in a busy downtown neighborhood where they throw a little shade, elicit regular double-takes and fill curbside spots that otherwise would go to cars.

The grandly named "parkmobiles" were rolled out earlier this summer, the first in a fleet of itinerant oases in one of America's densest cities.
