Some Layton residents may qualify for snow removal waiver

LAYTON -- Winter is still months away, but city officials are already thinking about the snow.

More specifically, the removal of that snow is on the minds of the city staff members.

Billboard to get new location in Layton

LAYTON -- A billboard destined for south Layton is now headed to a part of the city that has never been home to a billboard before.

The city council unanimously voted to relocate a billboard that was to be put at 720 S. Main St. The new location is 1597 N. Woodland Park Drive, just across the street from the Red Robin restaurant.

Layton to add apartment buildings

LAYTON -- For eight years, no apartment buildings have been built in Layton. That will soon change.

There are now four apartment complexes in the works that city officials and developers hope will be completed in the next few years.

"It really shows there has been a lack of multifamily housing in Davis County over the last few years. Now that this is something that is becoming viable, all sorts of developers are doing multi-family projects, because you can still make a return on investment," said Ben Hart, Layton's economic development specialist.

Layton limits number of payday loan shops

LAYTON -- There are 17 title loan, payday loan and deferred deposit lending businesses in Layton, a number city officials have deemed too high.

In response, the city council has taken action to eventually bring that number down.

Thursday night, the council adopted an ordinance that regulates those lending businesses. The ordinance caps the number of businesses allowed in the industry, while eventually lowering the number to 13, and prevents them from existing within 1,500 feet of each other.

LAYTON -- Former Davis School Board and longtime Layton Planning Commission member Dee R. Forbes died Wednesday at his Clearfield home from a head injury he suffered in an earlier fall.

Layton ponders options for recycling

LAYTON -- Three more cities have signed on for green waste curbside recycling. Will Layton be next?

"We're close to making a decision, and it should be made shortly," said Layton Mayor Steve Curtis.

As spring approaches, people could soon be pulling weeds, cutting grass and trimming tree limbs. That means there will be more green waste ready to take to Wasatch Integrated Waste's facilities in Layton and turned into mulch.
