Boy Scout official resigns in support of ousted lesbian leader

A board member of the Ohio River Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America has resigned to protest the ouster of Jennifer Tyrrell, the leader of her son's Tiger Cub pack forced out earlier this month because she is gay.

Lesbian Scout leader ousted; parents upset

The first-graders in Ohio Pack 109's Tiger Scouts didn't know or care their den mother was a lesbian -- at least not until the Boy Scouts of America threw her out over the organization's ban on gays.

Now, parents who were aware of Jennifer Tyrell's sexual orientation well before she took the boys on campouts and helped them carve race cars for the annual Pinewood Derby have rallied to her defense in a case that has re-ignited the debate over the Scouts' policy.

In acceptance of gay people, Ogden is found wanting

Ogden has made great strides, but we're getting skunked by those bums in Salt Lake City in one very critical area.

The Advocate, a national magazine for gay people, just named Salt Lake City the Gayest City in America. The capital of the reddest state in the nation, home of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, flies the biggest rainbow flag in the country.

And where's Ogden? Nowhere on the list.

CHICAGO -- A senior at Proviso East High School, Belinda Sanchez hopes to one day become a civil rights attorney. On Thursday, the 18-year-old got her first taste of victory, winning the right to wear a tuxedo to her upcoming senior prom.

Sanchez was initially told by the Maywood, Ill., school's principal, Milton Patch, that she could not wear a tuxedo to her prom and needed to wear a dress.

"I was just shocked," Sanchez said.

Sanchez, who is a lesbian, said has been open about her sexuality since freshman year and said the school has an active gay-straight alliance and is very supportive of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.
