Contributed, Norman Styles
Apr 18 2014 - 4:31pm

Editor,I'll toss in my hat into the ring for running for president of America. I'm 77 years young, and can offer all the really simple answers to our problems. We'll be changing America for the good at last. Everyone will vote 100 percent for my new party named, dinero and mu-lah. Our country has been run all my life by persons with law degrees....

Paper needs more national, international news

Bonnie Watts, Contributed
Apr 18 2014 - 3:54pm

Editor,After reading the "new" Standard-Examiner for the past two mornings, I am struck by the total lack of world and national news, with the minor exception of the three thumbnail comments in the second section, page 10. There is a crisis in the Ukraine, there is the Affordable Care Act, the sinking of a ferry in South Korea, there's Iran, Syria...

We shouldn't put society above freedom

Contributed, David Tomczak
Apr 18 2014 - 3:12pm

Editor,We have all the freedom one ever could want here in the United State; we have the choice to do whatever we want. However, we care about what others might think or what society will label us. In many ways we have signed over our freedom to fit in with a group so we don't standout and bring unwanted attention to us.

Contributed, Fred Naisbitt
Apr 17 2014 - 5:03pm

Editor,The town hall meeting held by Sen. Mike Lee revealed where he is coming from insofar as his political philosophy is concerned (April 17 news story, "Tea party champ Lee talks issues").Sen. Lee takes a firm stand on the principles of the U. S. Constitution, as buttressed by a conviction that the writing of the document was inspired by the...

Ogden schools don't need 'scary teacher-busters'

Apr 17 2014 - 4:51pm

Editor,I read with great interest the April 5 "Viewpoints" piece by Lisa Arango, "Ogden district teachers, students are not cogs in a machine"). I taught first and second grades for 17 years in Weber district, retiring in 2002. I was appalled at the situation in Ogden as described by Ms. Arango. I have heard about this from others, too. These are...

Hooper can't afford growth from high-density housing

Contributed, Ed Venstra
Apr 16 2014 - 4:42pm

Editor, I have often wondered what kind of medication the person was on who made the statement, "We need to become a city to stay country." What a fallacy.

Nurses and aids deserve our thanks

Contributed, Tony M. Gerritsen
Apr 16 2014 - 3:20pm

Editor,Nurses and their aids are in professions of which we do not give enough credit or thanks.I had to be in the hospital this past weekend for a internal bleed. Some of the things that had to be done were very embarrassing for me, and they made the situation very comfortable for me to get through. They do their jobs no matter how bad, with a...

Reader grateful for article about adopting pets

Contributed, Sara Frost Green
Apr 15 2014 - 4:37pm

Editor,I just would like to say thank you to the editors and writers of the paper who have recently shed light on something many others and I care so much about. I have appreciated the recent articles regarding pet adoption, adoption groups, and the Weber County Shelter trying and succeeding in limiting the needless euthanization of pets, and also...
