Volunteers to warn of dangers of deep Ogden River

OGDEN -- The city plans to mobilize 600 volunteers to patrol the swollen Ogden River over the next several weeks to provide flood safety information.

The volunteers will work in two-person teams with as many as 10 people walking along the Ogden River Parkway at any given time from Rainbow Gardens, 1851 Valley Drive, to Wall Avenue, city officials said Wednesday in a news release.

'We're not quitting yet:' Latest effort to repair levee fails

The latest effort to help repair a broken levee may have failed, but Weber County emergency officials aren't giving up yet.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Lowther said the river was eating its way around several of the one-ton sandbags that were dropped via helicopter Friday near 5900 West and 400 North.

Crews have been working around the clock since the break, Lowther said, but by Monday afternoon, the workers had left the site and emergency officials were trying to figure out a way to contain the uncontrolled water dumping into a small canal and into surrounding fields, dangerously close to homes.

Planning in the works to repair broken levee in Weber County

PLAIN CITY — Emergency officials are gathering this morning to try to establish a plan to repair a levee that broke yesterday on the Weber River.

(NICHOLAS DRANEY/Standard-Examiner) The Weber River flows over 5500 W. 900 North near Plain City on Thursday. Crews had to cut the road to control the water flow westward. The levee where officials placed six diesel-powered pumps to try to alleviate pressure in the river gave way Thursday, so flooding has spread.

Flooding hasn't worsened, but warnings still in effect

OGDEN -- The weekend's rise in temperature did not lead to a rise in flooding.

Weber County Emergency Preparedness Director Lance Peterson said officials continue to monitor the situation.

Weber prepares for flooding with levee breach

OGDEN -- Officials in Weber County are examining a levee to prepare for a deliberate breach in an effort to ease pressure along the Weber River as it reaches flood levels.

Workers are planning to create hole in a levee at the Ogden Bay Refuge on the Weber River to help ease pressure on the structure by emptying water into the Great Salt Lake as levels could rise about a foot over the next two days.

"We're very concerned right now about businesses, farmland and homes along the Weber River and taking every step possible to minimize the potential damage," said Weber County
