COALVILLE — Sheriff’s officials say a man struck by lightning while hiking near Amethyst Lake is in critical condition.

HOUSTON - Two men died and a third was injured Sunday when lightning struck a tree at a soccer field in Houston, already hard-hit by fierce storms over the past week, officials said.

CEDAR CITY -- Firefighters are monitoring a southern Utah wildfire in Zion National Park that they say has been 100 percent contained over the weekend.

WILLARD -- A bolt of lightning hit a tree and caused it to catch fire Tuesday morning as a brief but intense storm swept through Northern Utah.

Willard Fire Chief Van Mund said firefighters managed to put out the fire quickly. The tree stands in a backyard, about 400 feet from the nearest structure, so the fire did not threaten nearby homes.

"We have just enough moisture in the northern part of the state that it has caused thunderstorms," National Weather Service meteorologist Nanette Hosenfeld said.

CEDAR CITY -- Fire crews are working to contain a blaze that started with a bolt of lightning earlier this week in a remote area of southern Utah.

BRYCE CANYON NATIONAL PARK, Utah -- A lightning strike has killed a German man at Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah.

WEST HAVEN -- The lightning storm that moved through the Top of Utah Friday morning injured a construction worker when a bolt nearly hit him.

The man, in his late 30s, was not immediately identified. He was walking toward his truck at the Granite Construction Company supply site in West Haven when lightning struck the truck at 9:15 a.m., said Capt. Casey Naef of Weber Fire District. Because of how close he was, the man was thrown several feet in the air and landed on his face.
