Caldwell wins Ogden mayoral race

OGDEN -- A jubilant Mike Caldwell thanked campaign supporters and voters Tuesday night for electing him mayor while promising to keep the city on the path to continued prosperity.

"Hopefully, you won't have to listen to how we talk," Caldwell told dozens of supporters at a victory party at the Ogden Marriott Hotel downtown. "You get to see what we do. We are going to get to work."

Caldwell, who has never held an elected office, also praised the hard work of his campaign staff who went door to door to meet voters and placed signs throughout the city.

Few cities expect a strong voter turnout today

OGDEN -- Voter turnout is expected to be light today for most municipal elections in the Top of Utah, but those who cast a ballot will decide who will steer their communities for the next four years.

OGDEN -- Mayoral candidate Mike Caldwell raised about 10 times more in campaign funds than opponent City Councilman Brandon Stephenson during a recent 26-day reporting period, according to finance reports.

The reports filed this week with the Ogden City Recorder's Office cover campaign contributions and expenditures from Sept. 4 through Sept. 30.

During that time, the report indicates, Caldwell raised $19,650 from more than 50 individual donors.

Ogden mayoral candidates tout qualifications

OGDEN -- The two men running for mayor have similar visions of what they want for Ogden, though how qualified they are to see their visions through was up for debate Thursday evening.

Brian Mullahy, a news anchor for Channel 2, moderated the debate between candidates Mike Caldwell and Brandon Stephenson at the Ogden Municipal Building.

The two offered similar goals, including stabilizing neighborhoods and bringing in new business to improve the city. But how capable each is of realizing those goals was a point on which they differed.

OGDEN -- The public is invited to attend a taping by Channel 17 of a mayoral debate between Brandon Stephenson and Mike Caldwell at 7 p.m. today in the Ogden City Council chambers.

The moderator will be Channel 2 anchor Brian Mullahy. The debate will be aired over the weekend on Channel 17. The council chambers are on the third floor of the Municipal Building, 2549 Washington Blvd.

Van Hooser not sure if she'll request a recount of mayoral vote

OGDEN -- City Councilwoman Susan Van Hooser is undecided about asking for a recount after coming within 44 votes of second-place finisher City Councilman Brandon Stephenson in last week's mayoral primary election.

"I want to sleep on it and see what my options are," Van Hooser said in connection with the city council's official canvassing of votes on Tuesday. "I want to figure out what I want."

Van Hooser said she may make a decision today on whether to seek a recount.
