OGDEN -- Emergency responders rushed Wednesday night to 3268 Jackson Ave., where there was a report of "shots fired" and "officer down."

Officers from Ogden, Riverdale, North Ogden and Utah Highway Patrol responded to the scene, where six officers -- from Ogden and Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force -- were injured.

Two of the officers were in critical condition late Wednesday night, and the four remaining officers apparently did not suffer life-threatening injuries, said a source close to the investigation who requested anonymity.

Hospitals begin new visitation rules

McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden Regional Medical Center and Davis Hospital and Medical Center have implemented new visitation policies during the cold and flu season.

Baby care class offered in Spanish

OGDEN -- Expectant mothers are welcome to attend a baby care class in Spanish.

The class will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today in the education department of McKay-Dee Hospital, 4401 Harrison Blvd.

Patient arrested for attempting to strangle McKay-Dee nurse

OGDEN -- A hospital patient was booked into Weber County Jail after attempting to strangle a nurse with telemetry wires shortly after midnight Monday.

McKay-Dee Hospital staff reported having problems with the patient, Ogden resident Charles Anderson, 62, all night, Ogden Police Lt. Scott Conley said. Anderson had been belligerent on multiple occasions.

Boy hit in crosswalk near Lincoln Elementary

OGDEN — An 11-year-old boy went to McKay-Dee Hospital with a possible broken leg after being hit in a crosswalk on the way to school about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Fundraiser at game to aid hospital

OGDEN -- Ogden High School cheerleaders will host a fundraiser Friday to benefit McKay-Dee Hospital's Cancer Center.

Fans who come to Friday's football game are encouraged to wear something pink, and those who do will get a small prize at the door.

Cheerleaders will be collecting donations for the cancer center.

Few Medicare readmissions at Ogden Regional, McKay-Dee

OGDEN -- Medicare patients at Ogden Regional Medical Center and McKay-Dee Hospital are among the least likely in the country to be readmitted within a month of leaving the hospital following treatment.

McKay-Dee Hospital trauma bay named after retired director

OGDEN — Instead of cutting a ribbon to celebrate the new naming of a trauma bay at McKay-Dee Hospital, Kayleen Paul cut a strip of surgical tape stretched across the doorway.

The retired director of critical care, emergency and trauma services whom the trauma bay is now named for used a pair of surgical scissors to complete the task. The space formerly referred to as trauma bay no. 1 is now the Kayleen Lund Paul Trauma Bay, thanks to a generous naming gift by the Utah Emergency Physicians.

McKay-Dee Hospital voted among most beautiful

OGDEN -- McKay-Dee Hospital has been voted one of the top 20 most beautiful hospitals in America.

The hospital came in at No. 11 in ratings by Soliant Health, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the country. More than 250 hospitals nationwide were nominated.

$156M Ogden streetcar study to be reviewed

OGDEN -- A group of stakeholders put the brakes on a proposed $156 million streetcar system Wednesday so a city council consultant can review a study associated with the project.

The stakeholders include representatives from the city, South Ogden, Weber County Commission, Weber Area Council of Governments, Wasatch Front Regional Council, Utah Transit Authority, Utah Department of Transportation, McKay-Dee Hospital, Weber State University and Ogden/Weber Chamber of Commerce.

The group agreed to delay work on the project at the city council's request so consultant GB Arrington, who works for PB PlaceMaking Inc., based in Portland, Ore., can determine the viability of federal funding for the project and its potential economic impacts.

McKay-Dee history is topic for SUP show

LAYTON -- The history of McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden will be the topic at the Sons of the Utah Pioneers Snow Horse Chapter meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Davis County Library Central Branch Auditorium, 155 N. Wasatch Drive.
