MORGAN -- A Morgan County sheriff's deputy may face charges after police say a one-car accident she was involved in may have been the result of drunken driving.
Morgan County Deputy Nikkole Malan was involved in a car accident Oct. 10 on Old Highway Road near the Cottonwood area of Mountain Green, according to Weber County Sheriff's Office documents.
The accident report states Malan was driving east on Old Highway Road when she began to swerve and went off the roadway.
"(She) overcorrected and vaulted into a tree on the south side of the road," the report reads. "(The vehicle) was upside down in the tree."
After the accident, Malan left the scene, returning after police were on the scene.
Initially, a Morgan County sheriff's deputy responded to the accident, but after learning a fellow deputy was involved, the responding deputy called Utah Highway Patrol.
When UHP arrived, the trooper also knew Malan, so a Weber County sheriff's deputy was asked to respond.
That deputy cited Malan for driving under the influence, unsafe lane travel and leaving the scene of an accident.
Other possible charges are being screened by the Weber County Attorney's Office through Roy City Justice Court.
After Malan returned to the scene of the accident, she complained of neck and head pain, the report states. She was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment.
Weber County Sheriff's Capt. Klint Anderson said formal charges have not yet been filed against Malan, pending the results of a toxicology report, which could be completed within the next few days.
