Two men suspected of stealing copper wire

OGDEN — Two men were booked into the Weber County Jail on Saturday evening after police say they were caught taking copper wiring from a closed motel.

Mitchell Maw, 39, and Brandon Layne, 38, were arrested for burglary and possession of burglary tools.

Maw also was arrested for avoiding apprehension after he ran from police when they showed up at the scene.

Police say they found the two in possession of 60 feet of bundled copper wiring they believe the two took from the exterior of the former Travel Lodge Motel after a caller notified them that trespassers were in the vicinity.

The facility currently is surrounded by fencing and “no trespassing” signs.

According to Ogden Duty Lt. Shawn Hamblin, the two entered the facility through the motel lobby, as evidenced by muddy footprints through that area.
