Leaders meet to create five-year business plan for area economy

On Friday, 20 community leaders met for the first time to discuss the greater Ogden-area economy. The agenda was to consider the current business environment, the selection of significant goals to be achieved over the next five years and projects in progress.

Multicultural Youth Conference begins Friday

OGDEN -- Minority students from Ogden, Davis and Weber school districts will converge on Weber State University for the 17th annual Multicultural Youth Conference.

Military panel working to lift ban on women in combat

WASHINGTON -- Women should finally be allowed to serve fully in combat, a military advisory panel said Friday in a report seeking to dismantle the last major area of discrimination in the armed forces.

The call by a commission of current and retired military officers to let women be front-line fighters could set in motion another sea change in military culture as the armed forces, generations after racial barriers fell, grapples with the phasing out of the ban on gays serving openly.

Give Me A Chance program to host open house

OGDEN -- A nonprofit sewing center that teaches women a skill so they can earn a living is launching itself as a sustainable boutique store Friday and Nov. 13.

Give Me A Chance is holding an open house for the public to purchase dresses, children's and women's clothing, purses, jewelry, aprons, placemats and scarves women have made as they complete a training program. Program participants also offer alterations to those who visit their facility.
