OGDEN — A Morgan County sheriff’s deputy was in the right place at the right time when a fire broke out Tuesday morning at an Ogden duplex.

Deputy Rob Taylor dropped off a prisoner at Weber County Jail on 12th Street and went to A-1 Uniforms at 134 31st St. to pick up a couple of shirts

After leaving A-1 Uniforms around 10:45 a.m., Taylor noticed smoke billowing from a duplex at 146 E. 30th St.

Officials: Husband shot wife and killed himself

PORTERVILLE -- Grant Wadman, 57, shot and killed his wife, Marilee, 41, before taking his own life, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office believes.

In a news release issued Tuesday, the sheriff's office said the state medical examiner determined the shootings occurred one week before family members and deputies found the bodies of the couple in their home at 390 W. Hardscrabble Road.

When they arrived Thursday, deputies found two bullet holes in the home's north- facing windows and discovered the bodies of the couple in the living room, protected by their two dogs.

PORTERVILLE -- The Morgan County Sheriff's Office confirmed Friday that the deaths of a married couple in Porterville were a murder-suicide.

Family members and deputies found Grant Wadman, 57, and Marilee Wadman, 43, dead in their home at 390 W. Handscrabble Road on Thursday.

Deputies also found two bullet holes in the north-facing windows but could not confirm if they originated from inside or outside the home. They would not say if a weapon was found inside the home.

Morgan deputies, parents keeping eye out for child abduction suspect

MORGAN -- It has been a week since an attempted child abduction at a school bus stop, but investigating officers are no closer to uncovering any clues and the community is uneasy.

On Oct. 11, a man asked a 9-year-old girl to come talk with him soon after she got off the bus. He said he would hurt her if she didn't. The girl ran away.

MORGAN -- A phone call from a grandchild supposedly stuck in jail in Mexico has cost an elderly Morgan man $15,000, the Morgan County Sheriff's Office said Monday.

Detective Bill Wentland said he has little hope of ever recovering the man's money and declined to give the victim's name.

The scam, however, is a common one, and Wentland said he hopes the story of this incident will persuade other people to be more cautious.
