Trojans run away with Burchell title

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- A new team was added this year to the Harry Burchell Memorial Classic tournament and their appearance and hustle propelled them to the title.

The Morgan Trojans played two solid games this weekend against tougher competition and walked away with the championship trophy after beating the host Bonneville Lakers 54-37 Saturday afternoon. The Trojans routed the Silver Wolves on Friday and then took control of their contest with the Lakers in the middle two quarters to capture the victory.

"I thought that they came out and played hard early on and it got away from us there in the second and third quarters," Bonneville coach Mike Russell said. "We played well this weekend and I thought that the addition of Morgan to this year's tournament made it better."

Ashley Garfield scored 18 points to lead Morgan while Angela Blazzard chipped in with 12 of her own. Bonneville was led by Val Buckway's 23 points, including six 3-pointers.

In other games, Roy topped Logan 52-50, Sky View rolled Mountain View 66-38, and Layton Christian defeated Dugway 6-0. No details were reported from these games.
