Local man named new Morgan High principal

MORGAN -- Morgan School District's newest administrative decision rings true with other recent decisions: stay local.

"Sometimes we overlook locals and don't give them enough credit," said Wade Murdock, who was named Morgan High School's new principal Tuesday. Murdock graduated from Morgan High School in 1987 and served as assistant principal from 2005 to 2007. "I am excited to be back at Morgan High."

But that's not to say the screening committee of parents, educators and support staff didn't extend their search outside the district, or that they didn't choose the best-qualified candidate.

"Wade is a good fit for the high school and our students," said school board President Joey Skinner.

"We are pleased to have Wade rejoin our team," said Superintendent Ken Adams. "His main focus will be the welfare of our students and their educational success."

Murdock replaces Adams, another Morgan native who recently took over as Morgan superintendent.

"Ken runs a good school," said Murdock, who earned a master's degree in school counseling from the University of Phoenix and an administrative degree from Utah State University. "My goal is to maintain what he's accomplished."

A graduate of Weber State University, Murdock began his career at Wendover High School before transferring to Morgan Middle School, where he was a counselor. In 2007, his career took him to North Summit School District as the middle school principal.

Murdock and his wife, Merilee, live with their four children in Henefer.
