Morgan names local man as new superintendent

MORGAN -- After a rigorous search, Morgan County school officials stayed close to home in naming a new superintendent.

Longtime Morgan resident and current Morgan High School Principal Kenneth G. Adams will become Morgan's new superintendent effective July 1.

Nine applicants expressed interest in the job being vacated by Ron Wolff, who is leaving soon for a similar position in Box Elder School District. Adams is the only applicant from within the Morgan district.

"After spending a great deal of time and effort searching for a new superintendent, the Board of Education decided that the most qualified candidate was already in the district," Wolff said in a prepared statement.

"I'm humbled by this opportunity," Adams said. "I look forward to working to continue the level of excellence in Morgan."

Wolff noted that "Ken has been an outstanding high school principal and is well-suited to provide strong leadership for the entire school district."

The announcement leaves Morgan High looking for a new principal, something Adams said will be his top priority as superintendent.

A lifelong Morgan resident, Adams graduated from Morgan High School in 1969 and served as a student body officer. Since his 1977 employment in the school district, he has held several positions, including special education teacher, social studies teacher, high school counselor, Applied Technology Education director and assistant principal at Morgan Middle School.

To attain this position, a goal Adams says he has had for many years, he has pursued various degrees. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in sociology and history, with an emphasis in special education, from Weber State University. He continued his education with a master's of science degree in special education from Utah State University, a master's of education degree in educational administration from the University of Utah, a master's of arts degree in counseling and guidance from the University of Phoenix, and a master's of education from the University of Utah.

Adams has basically never stopped learning since he first set foot in a Morgan kindergarten classroom in 1957.

Adams said his intimate knowledge of the community will help him in his new job.

"I have a good understanding of the mission and values of the people of Morgan," he said. "I can't think of a better place to be. This is a great compliment from the school system I grew up in."
