Top of Utah names mothers of the year

OGDEN — The Ogden/Weber Chapter of American Mothers, Inc. recently announced the Ogden City and Weber County mothers of the year.

They are Cheryl Collett Ferrin, of Eden, who is Weber County’s mother of the year, and Alice Berg Smith of Ogden, who is Ogden’s mother of the year.

The two will be honored at a reception and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Ogden Golf and Country Club, 4197 Washington Boulevard in South Ogden.

Smith, 59, is married to David Leon Smith.

Fruit Heights selects mother-of-the-year

Fruit Heights recently announced their mother-of-the-year, Tamara Phelps, who has lived in the city for 55 years and faced several challenging life-experiences.

After raising five children, she was settling into retirement life and enjoying the joys of being a grandmother when her daughter and son passed away within eight hours of each other seven years ago of unrelated illnesses. Both in their 40s, her son passed away from melanoma cancer at age 42, while her daughter died unexpectedly at age 45 from a rare tumor found in her adrenal gland tissue.

Local women earn 'Mother of the Year' titles

OGDEN -- Two area women will be honored Saturday for their accomplishments as area mothers of the year.

Marilyn Ricks Harris is the Weber County Mother of the Year. Martha Sorensen Richards is the Ogden City Mother of the Year.

The two will be honored at noon Saturday at a luncheon at the Ogden Golf and Country Club, 4197 Washington Blvd. Those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP today by calling Jeanne Godfrey, president of the Ogden/Weber chapter of American Mothers Inc., at 801-782-8477.
