Four sent to hospital after weekend bout of crashes

A pair of motorcycle accidents in Davis County on Saturday sent four people to the hospital and were the latest in a rash of motorcycle crashes throughout the Top of Utah.

Motorcycle deaths on the rise in Utah, U.S.

SALT LAKE CITY — Following a nationwide trend, motorcycle deaths in Utah are on an upswing.

There were 32 fatal crashes in 2012; 28 in 2011; and 21 in 2010, said Gary Mower, a research analyst for the Utah Department of Public Safety.

So far this year, there have been two motorcycle deaths in Utah, one each in Layton and North Salt Lake.

Ogden officer on motorcycle injured in collision with car

OGDEN — An Ogden Police Department traffic officer was hospitalized Wednesday after crashing on his motorcycle into a car that tried to turn in front of him.

Ogden Police Lt. Chad Ledford said the officer, identified in a news release as Scott Gardiner, was riding south in the inside lane of Washington Boulevard around 3:50 p.m. when Margaret Isaac, 47, driving northbound in a silver Lexus, tried turning left onto 30th Street. The motorcycle and the Lexus collided, and Gardiner was thrown several yards.

“I’m not sure if (Isaac) didn’t see him, but she didn’t stop,” Ledford said.

Motorcyclist still in critical condition

OGDEN — A man transported to the hospital Thursday with serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident remained in critical condition Friday night.

Josh Knight is making an impact on the international motorcycle-racing scene, and the 17-year-old recently brought home a silver medal as the youngest member of Team USA at the International Six Day Enduro in Saxony, Germany.

Man accused of pushing son off motorcycle arrested

SALT LAKE CITY — A 42-year-old Millcreek man accused of shoving his teenage son off the back of his motorcycle and fleeing police is behind bars.

Salt Lake County Jail records show Brian Eddis Johnson was booked Friday on suspicion of charges including aggravated assault, failure to stop for police and child abuse.
