HALF MOON BAY, Calif. -- Gerard Butler is OK after being held underwater by some big waves while filming for a movie about a surfer at Mavericks, a famed Northern California surf break known for treacherous, stories-high waves.

Public invited to free film screening

OGDEN — The public is invited to view an award-winning documentary, “The Oath,” about two men who were involved with al-Qaeda, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Peery’s Egyptian Theater, 2415 Washington Blvd.

The free showing is co-sponsored by the ACLU of Utah, Egyptian Theater, and the Unitarian Universalist Church of Ogden.

A review of the film states, “From the director of the Oscar-nominated ‘My Country, My Country,’ ‘The Oath’ is a spectacularly gripping documentary that unspools like a great political thriller.

LDS Church builds Jerusalem replica in Utah for film

GOSHEN — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is building a replica of ancient Jerusalem.

The three-hour docudrama “The Story of Jesus” is told from the perspective of leaders and scholars from a host of different religious backgrounds. Documentary footage of the latest archeological finds in Israel and Palestine are also included in the film.

Clearfield Green Lantern artist displays unearthly willpower

CLEARFIELD -- The emerald energy of willpower. That seems to be a trait Tyler Kirkham possesses. For the past year, Kirkham, 28, has been the sketch artist behind the current series of Green Lantern comic books that DC Comics is distributing throughout the country.

Hilton was a regular on the CW network TV show “One Tree Hill,” which also featured several of his songs. FARMINGTON -- Elvis -- well, at least a film and television star who played him -- will perform at this year's Davis County Fair.

Co-director of acclaimed Sundance documentary, photographer killed in Libya

MISRATA, Libya -- Two Western photojournalists, including an Oscar-nominated film director, were killed Wednesday in Misrata while covering battles between rebels and Libyan government forces. Two others working alongside them were wounded.

British-born Tim Hetherington, co-director of the documentary "Restrepo" about U.S. soldiers on an outpost in Afghanistan, was killed inside the only rebel-held city in western Libya, said his U.S.-based publicist, Johanna Ramos Boyer. The city has come under weeks of relentless shelling by government troops.

Chris Hondros, a New York-based photographer for Getty Images, was also killed. His work appeared in major magazines and newspapers around the world, and his awards include the Robert Capa Gold Medal, one of the highest prizes in war photography.

Parents protest showing of graphic HBO movie to fourth-graders

CHICAGO -- Parents at a board meeting this week angrily demanded an explanation for why fourth-graders at an Illinois school were shown a graphic movie depicting a slave ship -- an HBO film that warns of adult content, nudity and violence.
