JOLIET, Ill. -- Kevin Fox sat in an Illinois jail cell for eight months as a suspect in his 3-year-old daughter's death, knowing the real killer was free.
On Wednesday, the suburban Chicago man sat just a few feet away from Scott Eby (EE'-bee) as the 39-year-old convicted sex offender pleaded guilty to the 2004 sexual assault and murder of Riley Fox. The plea deal means he won't get the death penalty, but he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Kevin Fox read a statement in which he recalled his time in jail, saying he often wondered what the real killer was doing. Fox was exonerated by DNA evidence.
Eby was in prison for a 2005 sexual assault when he was charged in May with Riley's death.
