ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A Minneapolis police SWAT team member has been charged with bank robbery.
The officer, 28-year-old Timothy Edward Carson of Rosemount, was ordered held without bail after a federal court hearing Thursday.
Carson is accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank in suburban Apple Valley on Wednesday, when $4,580 was taken. Court papers say Carson confessed to that robbery and admitted others in Dakota and Hennepin counties.
Magistrate Judge Jeanne Graham appointed a public defender for Carson, noting he was carrying "quite a bit of debt." Carson did not respond to the charges at the hearing except to say he understood them.
Police union president John Delmonico calls the case "disgusting" and says the union won't do anything to help the accused officer.
