NBA All-Star selections are mostly fitting

LOS ANGELES -- NBA All-Star selections can seem as predictable as upbeat endings in Disney movies.

In a shocker, Yao Ming wasn't voted in this year even though he has retired.

LeBron James could be 84 and fans would probably still nudge him and his wheelchair into the midseason showcase if he were on the ballot.

Back-to-back-to-back set to begin for Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- What happens when taking "one game at a time" meets "three games in a row?"

The Utah Jazz are about to find out.

As the result of the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season, each NBA team has one back-to-back-to-back set on its schedule. For the Jazz, that set begins tonight in Memphis, against a tough Grizzlies team. It'll end Tuesday night in Oklahoma City against the same Thunder team that whipped the Jazz last Friday at EnergySolutions Arena.

Thunderstruck! Jazz drop third-straight game

SALT LAKE CITY -- Playing with a little extra fire thanks to ESPN's world-wide audience, the Jazz were juiced for their late-night game with the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder.

And playing the night after a nationally televised West Coast game at Sacramento, the Thunder on Friday seemed ripe for the ripping.

Of course perception isn't always reality.

All eyes are on the free-throw shooter

LOS ANGELES -- Each time Chauncey Billups steps to the free-throw line he is "very confident," uncluttered by the fear of missing, secure in believing the routine he developed while a kid on the playground has prepared him for success.

Watch Billups closely to see how he is centered with the basket and a "dot" on the floor. He'll take his first dribble to ensure he starts his process correctly.

He'll take two more dribbles and look up to make sure he still is centered with the rim. He'll take one last dribble, look at the floor, look up and spin the basketball in his hands. He'll slightly bend his knees before he shoots, the ball spinning toward the rim, his follow-through always the same.

Carroll at practice with Jazz

SALT LAKE CITY -- Waived by the Denver Nuggets on Saturday, forward DeMarre Carroll didn't think he'd have to wait long before another team picked him up.

He was right.

The Utah Jazz on Wednesday agreed to terms with the former first-round draft pick, making him the 14th player on their roster.

Breton: Maloofs' future NBA success anything but a slam dunk

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- With momentum building to secure a downtown arena with the Kings as anchor tenants, Sacramento needs to know:

How can the current Kings owners retain control of the team and be successful?

Everyone knows that the Maloof brothers want to remain NBA owners more than anything.

Hayward picked for All-Star challenge

SALT LAKE CITY -- The NBA announced Wednesday that Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward is among 18 players selected for the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 24 in Orlando, during NBA All-Star 2012.

The Jazz also added forward DeMarre Carroll to their active roster.

Hayward is Utah's first participant in the event since Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap participated in 2008.

Jazz rally but lose lead late to Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS -- Danny Granger sat at his locker, worn out and tired.

He was dragging all day after taking medicine to help him get some rest, but it may have been too much for the Indianapolis Pacers forward.

"It just slowed me down basically the whole time," Granger said. "It was supposed to help me sleep, but it kept me groggy the whole day. I was waiting for it to wear off and I started the game and I still was kind of groggy."

Hayward and Tinsley enjoy a hoosier moment

He didn't mean it to sound quite like it did, but nevertheless, it didn't sound great.

"I saw some of the plays I remember when I was in junior high," said Jazzman Gordon Hayward, 21, referring to teammate Jamaal Tinsley, 33.

Yes, it's true. Young Gordon was just a kid living outside Indianapolis when Tinsley was in his heyday with the Indiana Pacers. And, yes, it's also true that Gordon and Jamaal are now teammates on the Utah Jazz, even though they're a dozen years apart.

New York Knicks' Jeremy Lin (17) drives the ball past Utah Jazz's Earl Watson (11) during the second half an NBA basketball game Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in New York. Lin scored 28 points during the Knicks' 99-88 win.

Jazz can't take advantage of ailing Knicks

NEW YORK -- Jeremy Lin scored a career-high 28 points in his first career start, Steve Novak added a season-best 19, and the New York Knicks overcame the absence of Amare Stoudemire and early loss of Carmelo Anthony to beat the Utah Jazz 99-88 on Monday night.

Stoudemire left the team to join his family in Florida after older brother Hazell was killed there earlier Monday in a car crash, then Anthony left after just six minutes with a strained right groin.

NBA suspends Lakers coach Brown 1 game for meltdown vs. Jazz

PHILADELPHIA -- Los Angeles coach Mike Brown has been suspended one game without pay and fined $25,000 for making contact with a game official and failure to leave the court in a timely manner following his ejection in Saturday's game.

The NBA announced the suspension Monday. Brown will miss Monday's game in Philadelphia against the 76ers.

The incident occurred with 8:41 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Lakers' 96-87 loss to the Utah Jazz.

Brown received two quick technicals for arguing Pau Gasol was fouled by Utah's Earl Watson.
