Jazz weeping no tears over T-Wolves' injuries

SALT LAKE CITY — Don’t look for Mo Williams to feel badly for the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Sure, injuries kept them for having a much better season. But even so, it’s all part of the game, Williams said Friday.

“I don’t feel sorry for them, just as (they) don’t feel sorry for us,” said Williams, who missed 32 games due to a thumb injury.

Going into Friday’s game with the Jazz at EnergySolutions Arena, the T-Wolves had lost 326 games due to injury or illness.

No settlement in Kim Kardashian-Kris Humphries divorce case

LOS ANGELES —  Attorneys did not reach a settlement in Kim Kardashian’s divorce case after settlement negotiations that were attended by the reality star but not her estranged husband Kris Humphries.

Humphries’ attorneys declined to comment on settlement discussions Friday but said a May 6 trial date remains. A judge sealed settlement discussions, but any agreement would have been put on the record after the hearing.

Kardashian was flanked by deputies as she left the courthouse shortly around noon.

Scott’s future in question with Cavs

INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — As the Cavaliers descend to the bottom of the standings in the final days of another depressing season, questions have mounted about coach Byron Scott’s future.

No doubt, he’s in trouble.

And while there are plenty of excuses — injuries and a lack of talent are atop the list — for Cleveland’s awful record, Scott’s not using any of them.

Cuban told reporters before Tuesday night’s game between the Mavericks and the Lakers that if Griner is the best player available, “I will take her.”

The 6-foot-8 Griner finished her college career as the NCAA leader in blocked shots and the second-leading scorer in women’s college basketball history.

March Sadness brings April Gladness for Utah hoops

With no NCAA tournament team, Weber State's NIT snub,  and the Jazz struggles in March, we seemed to be in a sort of a basketball dark ages here in Utah.

This unbearable stretch in March included a 9-game road losing steak for the Jazz, and two big late-season losses for BYU against eventual tournament teams, St. Mary's and Gonzaga. This agonizing month also featured the seemingly NIT tournament-bound Weber State Wildcats being rejected a spot into their seemingly irrevocable place in the tournament.

Oh what a difference a month can make.

Steve Young and Leigh Steinberg

Sober Steinberg ready to reboot super agent career

SAN DIEGO — It’s been three years since Leigh Steinberg had his last drink of vodka, the personal demon that sent his personal and professional lives crashing out of control.

It was on March 20, 2010, when Steinberg was standing in the doorway of a treatment center for indigent alcoholics, the last place anyone would expect to find the super agent who was the inspiration for Tom Cruise’s character in “Jerry Maguire.” There wasn’t a bed available, so his brother drove him to a residential rehab center where he spent the next 10 months.

Thursday is his third sober birthday. It’s a big milestone for Steinberg, who plans to relaunch his sports and entertainment agency this year as well as work on numerous other projects, including an autobiography and his continuing crusade to raise awareness of the damaging effects of concussions.
