SLIDESHOW: South Ogden Crash

SOUTH OGDEN -- At least five people were transported to local hospitals Thursday after a full-size van collided with a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of Highway 89 and Skyline Drive.

Police said the white van, which was carrying 10 people, was traveling west on Highway 89 around 11 a.m. when it collided with the Jeep carrying four people and attempting a left turn onto Skyline Drive.

South Ogden Police Sgt. Trent Olsen said the force of the collision threw the Jeep into a grassy area east of the road in front of Barnes Banking Company, while the van was flipped over onto the driver's side and spun.

"You're talking about a full-size van," he said. "It weighs a lot more than a small SUV."

The passengers of the white van most likely had to crawl out the back of the vehicle, Olsen said, because they were unable to get out any other way.

One female passenger, about whom police were unable to release any information, was in critical condition upon arriving at a local hospital.

Privacy rules prohibited spokesmen for Ogden Regional Medical Center and McKay-Dee Hospital from making any comment as to whether the accident victims were taken to their facilities. The van had Colorado license plates. Olsen would not say where the van was heading or why it was carrying so many passengers, saying that it wasn't relevant to the accident.

Riverdale, Weber County Sheriff's Office, South Ogden, and Utah Highway Patrol all responded to the accident, which took nearly three hours to clear. Olsen said so many jurisdictions had to respond because of the number of people being treated, and because they were forced to shut down a major intersection to clear and investigate the crash.

The accident remains under investigation. It was not known whether any of the occupants of the two vehicles were wearing seat belts.

CAR CRASH

My sweet aunt was in this accident... She was the most kindest, caring person I have ever known. My heart aches for her and our family. We loved her very much.. How can you say goodbye to someone that you love so much?.. She was so nurturing and loving she took care of everyone around her. She made everyone feel like they were the most important person on earth. Her life touched alot of people from her family to the kids at her school and people at church. I'm still very much stunned right now... God we look to you and need you to carry us in this time of grief and sorrow
