WASHINGTON TERRACE -- A 55-year-old man suspected of carrying on a sexual relationship with a teenage girl is now facing charges of child sex abuse.
Jeffrey Lee Worsham, of Washington Terrace, was arrested Sept. 23 outside Bonneville High School, where the 15-year-old girl is a student.
Authorities investigating the alleged relationship sent him a text message using the girl's cell phone to lure him there.
"They used her phone and asked him to come to the school to pick her up," said Weber County Sheriff''s Capt. Klint Anderson. "When he arrived, they took him into custody."
Anderson said Worsham is an acquaintance of the girl's family and developed a friendship with the teen over the past few months.
Worsham told investigators the friendship gradually became more sexual in nature by playing "tempting" games, from kissing, to fondling and, eventually, to oral sex, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Worsham is charged with two felony counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and one charge of sexual abuse of a minor, a class A misdemeanor.
He made an initial appearance on the charges Tuesday in 2nd District Court and is due back in court Oct. 6.
According to the probable cause, the teen told investigators she had been sexually abused by another perpetrator for three years beginning at age 6.
Authorities say Worsham admitted to knowing about the prior abuse of the teen.
Adult Probation and Parole launched the investigation after receiving information, possibly from someone who knew about the sexual relationship between the two, Anderson said.
The agent and a resource counselor at Bonneville High School located the teen during school hours, and the girl was later interviewed at the Ogden Children's Justice Center about her relationship with Worsham.
Anderson said Worsham may face additional charges in this case.
