Killer whale dies at SeaWorld Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The first killer whale successfully born at SeaWorld Orlando has died, the park announced just after midnight Tuesday.

Kalina, 25, died Monday after a sudden illness, a park spokesman said in an e-mail.

The animal was eating well and seemed healthy on Sunday, but she grew ill Monday afternoon and died in the early evening, he said.

The results of a necropsy won't be known for up to six weeks.

Kalina was born Sept. 26, 1985, to a mother named Katina. Kalina went on to give birth to several calves of her own.
