North Ogden to consider adding street lights

NORTH OGDEN -- The city is considering the addition of several street lights in neighborhoods after residents have been approaching the city council about dark streets.

City policy states that street lights should be every 600 feet at city intersections and some neighborhoods are not abiding by that policy.

Mayor Richard Harris said the city will closely examine and start working toward making that change.

“I think we should at least meet our minimum standard,” Harris said.

City Councilman Wade Bigler asked that the council discuss where the street lights should be put at the meeting scheduled for May 8.

North Ogden estimates cost of well to be $1.4M

NORTH OGDEN -- The city's engineer is proposing that a new well be drilled to the tune of $1.44 million.

The city wants to secure its water rights and be brought up to state guidelines for water. To do so, a fourth well is recommended, said Matt Hartvigsen, an engineer with Jones and Associates, the city's engineering firm.

Currently, the city is providing water at guidelines set in 2007, but this new well would put the water system a few years ahead.

Hartvigsen presented a detailed plan at a recent city council meeting, where he explained why a new well is needed in the next fiscal year.

North Ogden considers more lenient sign ordinances

NORTH OGDEN — The city will revisit its ordinance regarding temporary signs.

Currently the city does not allow any temporary signs in the parking strip except for those advertising city events. It also does not allow temporary signs on private property, such as open house signs, unless they are put up by the property owner.

North Ogden’s new communications policy to be tested

Email is a wonderful tool, making communications faster and broadening the universe to which you can easily send information. Facebook and Twitter take it several steps further, but email still has its niche.

But whether that niche is an effective tool as city officials’ only way of communicating with the media — well, we’re about to find out how well that works.
