Prep wrestling: Bees, Warriors shine in tourneys

Tournament-tested teams tend to take state.

Weber and Box Elder claimed a pair of wrestling tournament titles last weekend, combining elite finishers and strong depth to get the job done.

Syracuse won its Titans Duals with much the same recipe for success.

Prep football: Region 1 teams vie for state title

When the state football playoffs kick off in earnest this Friday, Top of Utah teams that can hang their hat on the defense will feel and added boost of comfort as the one-and-done tournaments roll toward the No. 18 tripleheader finale for 5-A, 4-A and 3-A teams at Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium.

The Region 1 wars produced a repeat champion in Fremont, and state contenders Northridge, Davis and Syracuse.

The Silver Wolves, Darts and Titans allow about 10 points per game, which could be a key as the playoffs unfold. The Knights allow 22 points per contest, but use their potent offense as a hammer to their overall game plan.

Prep track: On your marks, get set for regionals

After a weekend of solid performances at the BYU Invitational, Top of Utah track teams are lacing up their shoes for this week's region meets.

Region 5

The Ogden girls team brings all quality but little quantity to the Region 5 championships. The question will be whether their championship high jumper, Lauren Crockett and their three distance aces, Sara Feeny, Avery Calton and Jamie Stokes can pull off a championship over a deep Sky View team.
