Renovation crew crowns Ogden Temple with spire

OGDEN — State Sen. Stuart Reid stood Monday afternoon on the east side of Washington Boulevard marveling as a giant crane lifted a massive steeple and gently placed it atop The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Ogden Utah Temple.

Sunlight glinted off the golden spire as five construction workers secured it to the building that’s undergoing extensive renovations.

“You will be able to see it (the spire) for miles,” said Reid, R-Ogden. “It demonstrates the great progress of rebuilding the temple.”

OGDEN — Reaching Ogden’s vast trail system from the Utah Transit Authority’s FrontRunner commuter rail will soon become easier, requiring fewer encounters with moving traffic.

Later this spring, Ogden city will begin construction on a trail that will connect Ogden’s Intermodal Transit Hub on Wall Avenue to the Ogden River Parkway trail, just east of Goode Ski Lake.

The trail will run north from the FrontRunner parking lot to 22nd Street, then west to Pacific Avenue, then, following Pacific, it will continue to run north until it connects to the River Parkway trail.

OGDEN — Residents and clients of St. Anne’s Center set up a dozen wreaths near the center Wednesday afternoon to commemorate the dozen men injured or killed by cars rushing by on Wall Avenue and to draw attention to what they consider a dangerous situation.

As they were doing that, Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell said he was asking the Utah Department of Transportation to study the situation. Wall Avenue is a state road, he said, so UDOT has to be involved in any changes.
