OGDEN — An Ogden family was displaced after a fire destroyed part of their house Friday night.

Ogden promotes 2 to deputy fire chief

OGDEN — The Ogden City Fire Department promoted Eric Bauman and Matt Schwenk to deputy chief this week, filling vacancies left by retirement.

Bauman has 18 years of experience, most spent as a firefighter-paramedic. He also spent 12 years as a flight paramedic for Air-Med and has been a faculty instructor at Weber State University, teaching emergency care and rescue courses.

Power poles catch fire in Wednesday's storm

OGDEN — Several power poles caught fire Wednesday evening as a storm blew into the Top of Utah.

At least five poles caught fire in Weber County. Ogden Fire Battalion Chief Corey Barton said his own firefighters were out at 950 Liberty Ave., where the fire cut power to the neighborhood.

Oil spill cleaned up on Ogden River

OGDEN -- The small oil spill in the Ogden River is now gone, according to the Weber-Morgan Health Department.

OGDEN — Four people have been taken to hospitals after an accident involving seven vehicles at 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard.

An eyewitness said a Hummer coming out of Ogden Canyon on 12th Street ran a red light, hit a minivan, went airborne and struck a pickup truck and a car. The truck was then rear-ended by another car.

Weber County building evacuated due to smoke smell Tuesday

OGDEN — Occupants evacuated an auxiliary building at the Weber County Human Services offices Tuesday morning after smelling smoke.

A fire alarm went off around 8:45 a.m. at 238 27th St. next to an adult residential facility.

ROY — The smell of smoke hung heavy in the air as shell-shocked residents at Northpoint Condominiums returned home Tuesday to collect whatever they could salvage a day after a devastating fire.

The fire, reported Monday around 4:15 p.m., began in Unit No. 50 and spread to the 11 other units in the building at 4642 S. 1900 West, sending residents scurrying for safety. Thirty residents have been displaced, and most are staying with family and friends, authorities said.

Whitney Berchtold was asleep in Unit No. 44 in the Northpoint Condominiums building when she was awakened by the smell of smoke.

Wood-burning stove suspected after 2 fires in Ogden home

OGDEN — An early Saturday morning house fire, apparently caused by a wood-burning stove, did $35,000 in total property damage after rekindling, forcing firefighters back to the scene. No one was hurt in the incidents.

On his way to buy shirts, sheriff's deputy spots fire

OGDEN — A Morgan County sheriff’s deputy was in the right place at the right time when a fire broke out Tuesday morning at an Ogden duplex.

Deputy Rob Taylor dropped off a prisoner at Weber County Jail on 12th Street and went to A-1 Uniforms at 134 31st St. to pick up a couple of shirts

After leaving A-1 Uniforms around 10:45 a.m., Taylor noticed smoke billowing from a duplex at 146 E. 30th St.

An early Wednesday fire at Versailles Apartments in Ogden caused about $25,000 in damage and forced the evacuation of 24 units. All but the tenants of two apartments have been allowed to return. 5-year-old with lighter causes Ogden fire

OGDEN -- A child with a lighter started a fire that heavily damaged a home at 541 E. 980 North on Saturday morning.

When fire crews arrived, bystanders and neighbors were trying to put out the fire.

Peggy Worcott, 57, who is the sister of resident Sandra Borgstrom and lives across the street, was trying to move a butane tank away from the house when flames jumped out of a window and blistered the back of her neck.
