Ogden Knights

Dark days for shaky Ogden Knights franchise

OGDEN -- After a 94-0 loss in which only nine or ten players dressed, Ogden Knights owner William Bennett acknowledged the American Indoor Football Association team's 2010 season has been a disappointment and accepted responsibility.

Back to work for winless Blaze, Knights

WEST VALLEY CITY -- It's a matter of finding a way to win for the Utah Blaze.

After three consecutive losses, Utah concludes April by hosting the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings tonight at the E Center.

A chance to feed a Knight

OGDEN -- While the Ogden Knights struggle to keep their team intact, plenty of local indoor football fans and good neighbors have stepped in to help the players.

Knights hitting the road

OGDEN -- The Ogden Knights have played their final home game of the 2010 season.

The American Indoor Football Association team will play its remaining games on the road after "unforeseen circumstances" made their final five home dates at the Golden Spike Arena "no longer available."

Knights fail to hold early lead in road loss

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The Ogden Knights' 14-0 lead didn't last long.

By halftime, the San Jose Wolves erased Ogden's early first-quarter advantage and then held the Knights to six points in the second half en route to a 58-32 American Indoor Football Association victory before a Cow Palace Crowd estimated at 3,000 late Saturday.

Knights' delay of game was needless, says owner

OGDEN -- If he had to, Ogden Knights owner Bill Bennett says he would have taken care of any expense out of pocket.

However, Bennett says there would have been no need.

Knights still seek first victory

OGDEN -- Interesting games have interesting endings.

Knights ready for second go after opening loss

OGDEN -- In the unique sporting platform that is indoor football, Week 2 is usually a better indicator of what a team can do rather than opening weekend.

(NICHOLAS DRANEY/Standard-Examiner) Ogden Knights' Gerard Landry (14) gets tackled by Wyoming Cavalry's Antar Brame (2), Jeff McNally (27) and Darrell Neiman (8) at Golden Spike Events Center in Ogden on Monday.

OGDEN -- Making his indoor football start against one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the sport's history, Jeremy Glover took heed of the advice given by Ogden Knights coach Doug Coleman -- "To be the man, you have to beat the man."

Knights no longer new guys in AIFA

OGDEN -- One of the first things new Ogden Knights coach Doug Coleman did when taking over the American Indoor Football Association team was look at game video from its 4-10 inaugural season.

Knights falter in exhibition

OGDEN -- Don't look at the score of the Ogden Knights' first and only exhibition contest this year as any indication how the 2010 campaign will go for the American Indoor Football Association team.

Knights tab Doug Coleman as new head coach

OGDEN -- The Ogden Knights named arena football veteran Doug Coleman as its new head coach and director of player personnel for the upcoming American Indoor Football League season.

"Doug is the only man I would want to lead the Knights in 2010," team president and general manager Travis Vance said. "I believe that coach Coleman will put the most competitive team on the field and give us our best chance to bring the AIFA championship to Ogden. Doug and I have history winning championships together and that's what we are looking to do as we partner up again."

KNIGHTS' OPENING CHAPTER / Injuries, inconsistency the story of Knights' initial AIFA season

OGDEN -- After four grueling months, 14 fast-paced games and 16 players suffering season-ending injuries, the Ogden Knights' inaugural season has finally come to an end.
It's been a roller-coaster ride for the American Indoor Football Association's expansion Knights, who managed to salvage a 4-10 record.
"We had a 25-percent roster change," said Ogden head coach Mike Mink. "When we started to have some consistency in our lineup overall, we made some changes defensively. We were pretty effective with the new defensive scheme in the second half (of the season). The guys started to learn it, and we started getting turnovers as we started getting more pressure on the quarterback. We just got more consistent play from the whole team in general."

Knights take on Cavalry in finale

CASPER, Wyo. -- Ogden Knights coach Mike Mink has called the 2009 season a learning experience for his first-year AIFA franchise. From setting up the field, to commitment to workouts, to on-field discipline, Mink has worked with his squad on learning the right way to do things.
He hopes his squad learns another lesson in their season finale against the Wyoming Cavalry.
While the Knights are 4-9 going into tonight's battle at the Casper Events Center, and a long way from the playoffs, the Cavalry are 11-3 and have their eyes on hosting the AIFA championship in a couple of weeks.
