Ogden police arrest 3, seek 1 more in RV, motor home break-ins

OGDEN -- Three men face dozens of criminal charges after being arrested for what police say is a string of RV and motor home burglaries.

Terry Fain, 29, was booked into Weber County Jail on 27 charges, including criminal mischief, criminal trespass, burglary of a vehicle and theft.

Matthew Anastos, 26, and Matt Lanzarotta, 19, were each booked on 18 counts of similar crimes.

The three were arrested in connection with multiple vehicle burglaries at Wasatch Storage, 5100 S. 375 East, from March 2010 through Jan. 27, said Weber County Sheriff's Detective Chad Allen.

Burglars broke windows in stored motor homes and RVs and stole electronic items such as DVDs, televisions and speaker systems, Allen said.

The fence of the storage business was cut and six vehicles were broken into on Sept. 15, he said. "They did it in broad daylight."

In one of the motor homes, a glove was left behind. Investigators were able to lift a fingerprint from the inside of the glove. That print led officials to Lanzarotta, who was already in Weber County Jail for an unrelated crime.

Allen said Lanzarotta admitted to being involved in the September burglary and identified Anastos as being present during the burglaries.

Officers located Anastos, who also admitted to involvement in the September burglary. He was arrested early in the morning of Jan. 27.

When he was questioned, he identified Fain as another burglar.

Fain was located later that day at his girlfriend's home, Allen said, and was taken into custody and questioned.

Allen said while Fain was waiting in a holding cell to be interviewed, a call was received that three RVs had been burglarized the night before at Wasatch Storage.

When Fain was interviewed, he was first asked about the most recent burglaries, then about his involvement in the September case.

"He confessed to the three that occurred (in January)," Allen said, "then the six that had occurred (in September)."

Allen said Fain was alone when he most recently burglarized the vehicles.

Police are still searching for a fourth man they believe to be involved in the burglaries and may be responsible for many of the dozens of cases reported in March, August and October.

There is not a final cost on the amount of damage the suspects caused, but most of the RVs had at least $200 in window repairs, while others had damage topping $10,000 for the replacement of cabinets ruined when the burglars attempted to rip electronics from the vehicles.

Allen said much of the stolen property was sold on the street or was damaged.

He said the men did not bring any tools with them when they burglarized the RVs in September, and many of the electronic items were broken when the burglars attempted to rip them out of the vehicles.

Allen said police believe the fourth person may be connected to other similar burglaries in Farr West, North Ogden and other cities.

"We think he's tied into more crime throughout the county."
