$300K centerpiece of Ogden River restoration nears completion

OGDEN — Work on a public art project that will serve as the centerpiece of the ongoing Ogden River restoration is almost complete.

The piece, dubbed the “Water Table,” was designed by Denver-area artist Andy Dufford and features, along with several mountain canyons, a stone-carved map of the Ogden and Weber Rivers flowing into the Great Salt Lake.

The completed work will include a water element for splashing, a solstice sculpture and a small gathering area.

Oil spill cleaned up on Ogden River

OGDEN -- The small oil spill in the Ogden River is now gone, according to the Weber-Morgan Health Department.

State official: Weber-Davis clear of high fire threat

OGDEN — Warm, windy weather has dried greenery and increased the fire threat in northeastern Utah.

But outside of ditch bank and agricultural burns getting away from people, the Weber-Davis area is under no high fire threat, a state fire official says.

Red flag warnings were in effect Thursday for much of western Colorado and the San Luis Valley, as well as parts of Utah, Wyoming, Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.

Weber snags $13M in federal flooding aid

OGDEN -- Weber County is getting $13 million -- the largest amount of any county in Utah -- to repair flood damage from last year's record runoff.

Ogden RDA sets public hearing on extending river project

OGDEN -- The Ogden Redevelopment Agency board voted Tuesday night to hold a public hearing Jan. 17 on a proposal to extend the Ogden River Project Redevelopment Area's tax increment collection period by eight years.

City celebrates cleanup, vibrancy of Ogden River

OGDEN -- An operator of a pizza shop and brew pub on the banks of the Ogden River says his business is riding the tide of success because of a $6.3 million effort to clean up a polluted downtown section of the waterway.

The victim, described as being about 60 years old, was alone, and officials say there were no obvious signs of trauma. The man has been identified, but officials aren't releasing his name until his family has been notified. The hot pots have been closed by the Weber-Morgan Health Department as a health precaution, as it is a popular bathing site in the summer.

Stolen car floats down Ogden River

OGDEN — A stolen car found Tuesday morning dumped in the Ogden River held nothing but water and fodder for snide remarks by the onlookers and city’s rescue personnel pulling it out.

Such as: “I bet the carburetor is flooded.”

Or: “That’s gonna need a car wash.”

Or: “Someone didn’t want to give it back to the finance company.”

And finally, “That’s what you call mild water damage,” said with a grin.

Volunteers urge safety along raging Ogden River

OGDEN -- Dinah Novy, accompanied by her dog, Max, eased the golf cart away from Pioneer Park and slowly drove along a paved path next to the swollen Ogden River. Novy, a member of Ogden's Community Emergency Response Team, spent Thursday making rounds along a section of the Ogden River Parkway as part of a city-sponsored volunteer effort to warn pedestrians of the dangers of the fast-moving water.

Officials: Weber River breach repair holding

The breach repair project on the Weber River was completed Saturday and early indications are that the fix is holding, according to a news release from the Utah Department of Public Safety.

Volunteers to warn of dangers of deep Ogden River

OGDEN -- The city plans to mobilize 600 volunteers to patrol the swollen Ogden River over the next several weeks to provide flood safety information.

The volunteers will work in two-person teams with as many as 10 people walking along the Ogden River Parkway at any given time from Rainbow Gardens, 1851 Valley Drive, to Wall Avenue, city officials said Wednesday in a news release.
