$300K centerpiece of Ogden River restoration nears completion

OGDEN — Work on a public art project that will serve as the centerpiece of the ongoing Ogden River restoration is almost complete.

The piece, dubbed the “Water Table,” was designed by Denver-area artist Andy Dufford and features, along with several mountain canyons, a stone-carved map of the Ogden and Weber Rivers flowing into the Great Salt Lake.

The completed work will include a water element for splashing, a solstice sculpture and a small gathering area.

OGDEN -- The Ogden Redevelopment Agency board adopted a resolution Tuesday night that will extend the Ogden River Project tax increment collection period by eight years.

The tax increment collection period for the Ogden River Project was set to expire June 30, 2019, but the extension allows the RDA to collect tax increment through June 2027.

Tax increment financing is a tool that captures projected property tax revenue created by a development and then allows those funds to be invested for improvements associated with the project.

OGDEN -- In his final address as mayor of Ogden, Matthew Godfrey stopped twice to collect himself. He spoke about how the pressures of public criticism had damaged the family name his father was proud of and how the death of his father four years ago affected him.

OGDEN -- An operator of a pizza shop and brew pub on the banks of the Ogden River says his business is riding the tide of success because of a $6.3 million effort to clean up a polluted downtown section of the waterway.

OGDEN -- The city is sponsoring a dedication ceremony Friday commemorating completion of the first phase of a $6.3 million effort to clean up a polluted downtown section of the Ogden River.

Auditor: Ogden finances sound despite procedural gaffe

OGDEN -- A recent state report revealing that Mayor Matthew Godfrey's staff spent $434,000 on three capital improvement projects between 2007 and 2009 without city council permission doesn't impact the municipality's financial stability, an auditor said Tuesday night.
