OGDEN — Former Ogden police chief and state Sen. Jon Greiner is back in the political arena, filing his candidacy for Weber County Commission Seat C.

Also filing for the seat are fellow Republican Matthew Bell, chairman of the Weber County Republican Party, and Democrat Corey Combe.

Audit report says Ogden School District curriculum a year below assigned grade levels

OGDEN -- Classes in Ogden School District have curriculum about a year below assigned grade levels, according to an audit report conducted by a Colorado company.

OGDEN — Weber County’s first filers in the 2012 election were mostly incumbents, including several legislators who made it down despite being up late Thursday night for the Legislature’s final day in session.

Friday was the first day to file for elective office in Utah, ranging from the U.S. Congress to local school boards and county commission seats.

OGDEN -- Joyce Wilson is passionate about students in the Ogden School District. So passionate that she serves on the school board and then volunteers up to 40 hours a week producing school musicals throughout the district.

Ogden School Board fills open seat

OGDEN -- The Ogden School Board on Tuesday chose Jeffrey N. Heiner to fill the board seat that opened when Brad Smith resigned to become district superintendent.

Heiner, 36, of Ogden, was one of five candidates interviewed Tuesday. Heiner told the board he saw the position as a great opportunity to serve the community and take part in the decisions that would make his four children's educational experience better.

New district superintendent shakes up staff at Ogden schools

OGDEN -- Moving vans pulled up to Ogden schools to cart away office contents of top administrators who had introduced themselves to students just weeks earlier at start-of-school assemblies.

New Ogden School District Superintendent Brad C. Smith on Monday sent out a memo outlining the immediate reassignment of three principals, three assistant principals, a coordinator and an instructional coach.

The changes involve all of the district's mainstream high schools and all of its junior high schools, as well as one undisclosed elementary school.

OGDEN -- After a volatile summer of contract-signing ultimatums and teacher protests, new Ogden School District Superintendent Brad C. Smith is hoping for a quieter and more productive autumn.

"We are not trying to re-create who we think is to blame at this time," Smith told the Standard-Examiner. "It was a breakdown of effective communications among parties, which led to a whole series of unfortunate results."

OGDEN -- The city that lured away Ogden High School's previous principal has provided the school's next top administrator.

Stacey Briggs, a vice principal at Provo High School, on Thursday night was appointed Ogden High's new principal. The Ogden School Board hiring came less than three weeks after former OHS principal Trevor Wilson gave his notice to accept an athletics department job at Provo's Brigham Young University.

Teachers: Clarifications unclear

OGDEN -- The Ogden School District has supplied answers to the nearly 100 questions submitted by teachers who were confused about the new contract.

But Doug Stephens, president of the Ogden Education Association, said the answers from the district don't clear up much of the confusion.

The one holdout was an inactive teacher, on leave during the past school year, who decided not to return.

Two groups weigh in on ultimatum

OGDEN - Two political groups have chosen opposing sides regarding the Ogden School Board's ultimatum to teachers to sign their contracts by July 20 or lose their jobs.

The Sutherland Institute, a conservative, state-based public policy organization, issued a statement Friday saying it "lauds Ogden School District's decision to take steps toward creating a performance-based pay system over the next six years."
