Renovation crew crowns Ogden Temple with spire

OGDEN — State Sen. Stuart Reid stood Monday afternoon on the east side of Washington Boulevard marveling as a giant crane lifted a massive steeple and gently placed it atop The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Ogden Utah Temple.

Sunlight glinted off the golden spire as five construction workers secured it to the building that’s undergoing extensive renovations.

“You will be able to see it (the spire) for miles,” said Reid, R-Ogden. “It demonstrates the great progress of rebuilding the temple.”

Ogden Temple renovation update elicits 'oohs' and 'ahhs'

OGDEN — Based on the reaction of the crowd Saturday, the 2014 renovation completion date of the Ogden Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints cannot come soon enough.

Between 155 and 165 people squeezed into a room at the Ogden FamilySearch Library to hear a temple project update from an LDS official close to the project who asked not to be identified.

And based on the “oohs" and "ahhs” from the crowd, similar to what one might hear at a fireworks display, nobody walked away disappointed from the 75-minute narrated slideshow.

Change on the horizon: Ogden Temple takes on whole new shape

OGDEN — With the Brigham City Temple now dedicated and open for temple work, many in the Ogden area are focusing on the completion of the Ogden Temple.

The announcement for the remodel of the Ogden Temple was made in February 2010, and the temple was officially closed in April 2011 for the remodel to begin. Completion is set to take approximately 2 1⁄2 years from that date, although the date can change.
