GALLERY: Inappropriate Teacher-Student Facebook Messages

Cimaron Neugebauer
Apr 14 2014 - 8:43pm

Out of hundreds of messages, the Standard-Examiner selected 20 messages that show a 27-year-old teacher's string of behavior over months of inappropriate Facebook messaging to a then 13-year-old student. In the messages she discusses Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) issues of other students including grades, divorce/custody issues along with personnel, faculty, and student privacy issues with a teen student. The Ogden Highland Junior High School teacher resigned April 2. Some redactions have been made for privacy of other teachers and the principal, all of whom had disparaging remarks made about them. Since the teacher has not been publicly charged with anything, her Facebook profile picture has also been blurred. Private Facebook Messenger messages from the teen's account were provided to the Standard-Examiner by the parent.
