Job done, Silver Eagle CEO resigns

WOODS CROSS -- Eight months after becoming president and CEO of Silver Eagle Refining, J. Michael Redd has resigned, saying he accomplished all he set out to do.

Redd joined Silver Eagle Refining as vice president of operations shortly after an explosion at the refinery on Nov. 4, 2009. His main duties were to improve safety measures and reconnect the refinery with the community.

Redd was promoted to president and CEO about eight months ago.

Families of 6 killed in oil refinery blast file lawsuit

SEATTLE -- Families of six workers killed in an explosion at Tesoro's Anacortes, Wash., oil refinery last year filed a wrongful-death lawsuit Wednesday, charging the refinery owner deliberately ignored dangerous conditions that led to the blast.

The explosion -- which state investigators concluded was preventable -- killed seven workers. Six of their families joined the lawsuit filed in Skagit County Superior Court. Also suing is a contractor who was burned but survived.

The lawsuit accuses Tesoro of failing to inspect decaying equipment and ignoring industry safety standards and federal laws. It said the refinery routinely pushed equipment above safe pressure limits because it was "economically attractive" and boosted production.
