The boy scouts have a long-standing philosophy of leaving things better than you found them. Have you driven through the heart of Ogden lately? See any changes? See any improvements? I know some out there would still love to see old rotting buildings and deserted fields that remain, well, deserted. I am not sure what philosophy these folks would like to embrace but I am enjoying this scouting one. To the opposition: you just keep asking those questions and Mayor Godfrey will keep bringing economic improvements to this great city. Any questions? Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Is there any intelligence out there
Just wanted to write a follow-up comment. I have been following the comment board and have not read anything productive. Similar to other arguements, the people who oppose Mayor Godfrey must resort to personal attacks. Instead of making a comment regarding my points the opposition allegedly tries to drag out my scouting record. What relevance does that have to the topic? None. My goal for Ogden is growth, controlled growth. And the best resource for growth is taxes brought to the budget by business, not increasing property and education taxes. So for those out there with only criticism, keep blathering. But for those out there with real ideas start talking because we have two options for the future: continue with Mayor Godfrey and his economic development plan, or ask a lot of questions and diminsh as a city.
And for the record I too was against the gondola from down-town to WSU. And since that is the only meaningful point keep trying.

I do not agree with Mr. Fowers on much of anything about Ogden City government, the Godfrey administration, etc. We've gone at each other here several times. But it is just plain wrong to go after someone's job or to complain to someone's employer because he disagrees with you on city politics and policy. You have arguments to raise to counter his, have at him. But contacting an employer about someone because they blogg about Ogden public affairs advocating things you disagree with is way over the line. Way over.
It's just plain wrong.
SEND OUT THE BLOODHEOUNDS! BLAKEABEDUSTINBILL IS 'OFF THE HOOK!'

Note: not everyone who disagrees with Godfreys city vision could be considered a naysayer.
I am pro !ADVENTURECITYOGDEN! all the way. I want to see the ice climbing tower in August, with dozens and dozens of climbers. I want to see a velodrome with gonzo-motocross-archery range, I want to see a giant base jump air-powered catapult up on the cliffs above 9th St. River trail? Make three! Zip line from Malans to the Frontrunner? Sure! Personal airship tours of the northern Wasatch? World Class Giant Bike Jump? w00t! You want to make Ogden friendly to outdoor Enthusiasts, we say bring it.
You know, though, all this will eventually make Ogden like Boulder, CO. This town will end up so over-the-top liberal, like Park City but with Ogden firearms, naked dancing at !ADVENTURECITYOGDEN! parties, all night hot-tubbing LSD parties with the Swedish triathlon team and the Nigerian skateboarders and Ogden's sons and daughters. Yep, the world is welcome here.
Our only demand is that Ogden uses good and solid conservative economic principles, and no taxpayer dollars, in the promotion and development of !ADVENTURECITYOGDEN!
Oh, and Paragliding Snow Betties.
TWIST TWIST TWIST
Nate, I've posted an article about what's going on with these people who try to constantly bombard these outlets in hopes to sway public opinion.
What's going on is not what they pretend. Take 'Geodude's' response. The only thing he cites from any current article was one comment. So when he says he went over to take a look, it's baloney. He knows exactly.
We have a handful of people in town employing manipulation tactics to try and sway public opinion. Go take a look. They use tactics like FUD and logical fallacies... just like geodude just did with you. Sadly, they're killing worthwhile improvements to Ogden so they can keep it cheap.

Ooops! Irony meter spiked again!
Mr. Fowers:
You wrote this above: "I've posted an article about what's going on with these people who try constantly to bombard these outlets [the SE comments boards] in hopes to sway public opinion."
Ah... I seem to recall you put over and over and over again in the two weeks preceeding the election a link to the viral video on You Tube you hoped would sink Ms. Van Hooser's campaign. Weren't you yourself them "trying constantly to bombard these outlets in hopes to sway public opinion"?
Why, yes. It seems you were.
Oooops. My irony meter just spiked again.
WHO IS BLAKE FOWERS?
I was curious so I followed the link to the "Junction Ctiy News" to find out what it was all. Wow. It's a blog that nobody reads, one comment in 10 articles (all written by Fowers), and the Godfrey drool he spews slimmed my monitor. He rants about the lack of logical responses and name calling, and yet insults Jeske as "one of the lowest IQ individuals ever to serve on the council." His vitriol for anyone who disagrees with him and his cronies can logically lead to only one conclusion. He's a freaking idiot. So my question stands...who is Blake Fowers?
NATE WELCOME
Nate, you're exactly right. No sense bickering with Ogden detractors- they will never ever get it.
Make sure to come over to the site for the Ogden Revitalizationalist http://junctioncitynews.blogspot.com
Blake Fowers, Ogden Detractor
In an idle moment yesterday --- a very idle moment --- I wandered over to see what Mr. Blake "Factless" Fowers has up on his website. It's pretty funny. There is for example a long whining complaint about the Standard Examiner having endorsed Ms. Van Hooser, and the unfairness of its doing it the Sunday before the election. Now while I agree that the SE would be well-advised to do all its endorsing at least a week out to allow time for reply, I did note that Mr. Fowers didn't complain about Saturday's endorsements, both of which he favored. Nor did he comment upon the irony of the SE's having endorsed Mayor Godfrey just before the election last time. That, it seems, was fine with Mr. Fowers.
Mr. Fowers complaining about Ogden's only daily paper? Doesn't that make Mr. Fowers himself... well... an Ogden detractor? Who, after all, would want to move their family or business to a city with a newspaper so dedicated [according to Mr. Fowers] to supporting Ogden-haters? 'Tis a puzzlement, for sure....
Mr. Blake "Factless" Fowers' --- you should excuse the expression --- "logic" runs something like this: If you dare disagree with him on a matter of public policy, you are an "Ogden detractor." For the likes of Mr. Fowers and his ilk in the Godfrey Gaggle, it is apparently impossible to disagree with them on a matter of public policy unless you're an "Ogden detractor."
And they wonder why the lost both city wide Council races by thumping margins.
Nate
I've known you for years and I can't ever remember you being over the top about Scouts. Congratulations if that is what you've found in adulthood. Here is what the Boy Scout Oath states:
On my honor, I will do my best to do by duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
Mayor Godfrey is none of the above. He makes me, and I know others, sometimes question the quality of people the Mormon church (which I'm a memeber of) has to offer. He is so manulapitive and will use people however he needs to to get what he wants. He is not looking out for Ogden's needs as much as he is, his own. When he is out of office and someone is left to clean up his mess, I wonder if you will all think he is such a boy scout!
Ogden
Not sure who "Ogden" is but I am sure glad he is man enough to include his name for the community to see. Instead he can go ahead and hide behind an alias. Thanks for quoting the scout oath. I was a little shakey in remembering it because, as you know, I was only a scout from the time I was 12 until I turned 18. And then after that I have been involved with scouting off and on but you would have already known that. I am glad you are so quick to question the character of members of your own faith when no doubt you do not know the mayor on a personal basis. I am sure you would do a much better job if you were in his position but instead you are doing outstanding work criticizing him from the sidelines. Let's all be a little more civil and provide some constructive criticism instead of stating the mess we are in. Oh and being in such a mess I am still baffeled as to why so many new businesses continue to want to set up shop here? Any help with that would be appreciated.
Well,
Well, Nate, when you post things like this --- "I know some out there would still love to see old rotting buildings and deserted fields that remain, well, deserted." --- you pretty much announce to readers that you don't have much to say that should be taken seriously. You seem to have drunk the Godfrey Gaggle Kool Aid which convinces all who drink it that any who dare to disagree with the mayor about a particular project or idea must necessarily therefor be "anti-Ogden" or "against everything" or would prefer to see downtown Ogden "rotting" instead of thriving. Which is nonsense.
Your refusal to recognize that people can differ with the Mayor about what might be the best course for Ogden without necessarily being "anti Ogden" because they disagree explains to me why you feel so comfortable in the Godfrey Gaggle camp. You doubtless fit right in with the Mayor who apparently believes "my way or the highway!" is a sound model for urban management.
Don't know why you felt you had to drag the Boy Scouts into this, but as a former Boy Scout, and Cubmaster and Scoutmaster, I seem to recall something about a motto --- "Be Prepared", wasn't it? Don't know how you read that, Nate, but seems to me it suggests strongly that research ought to precede conclusions, that before acting on something, you ought to have considered, carefully, the probable consequences and potential unanticipated ones as well. I have a hard time matching up that reading of "Be Prepared" with proposals to sell of the city's largest park to real estate developers in order to raise some of the $35 million needed to build a flatland gondola tourist ride from downtown to WSU. Or matching up that understanding of "Be Prepared" with a plan to use hundreds of thousands in public funds to build an out door year round ice climbing popsicle on a downtown streetcorner. Both recent Godfrey obsessions.
Hey Flatlander
I am glad you are actually able to bring some information to the table unlike your counterparts. Not sure what line of my letter states that if you disagree with the mayor you are "anti-Ogden" or "against everything" but go ahead and continue mis-quoting to get your point across it's nothing new coming from the opposition. What I am saying is go ahead and disagree but at least come to the table with some sort of alternative. Bring some plan for the future. Just bring a single idea that is all I ask. Or just go ahead like the rest and ask all your questions and in the end bring no future to this great city. At least Mayor Godfrey has ideas and is willing to debate them in public. Be against Godfrey, it doesn't bother me a bit, just make sure that you aren't just against something, but that you can oppose it with somthing else that is better.
Thanks
Thanks for writing this, Nate. I look forward to reading your letters in the future, when you have a point.
You bet
I am glad you brought so much useful information to the table. Because you have a hard time comprehending the point was Ogden is thriving despite all the negativity surrounding the mayor. I am glad you read the letters, next time think about them.
Because you were involved
From what I hear you were really involved with scouting and would know all about that philosophy....too bad you can't hear the real sarcasm in my voice.
nice point
what was it?
