(UNEDITED) I'm going to have to disagree with President Obama on this one. I'm also going to ignoring the suggested talking points on the Organizing for America web form which suggest "a vote for this bill [will] provide secure and stable coverage for Americans with insurance, ... lower costs for families... and begin to reduce the deficit."
I'm a stay-at-home mother of 3 children under the age of 7. My husband works for himself. Insurance for our family costs less than $300/month. We pay out of pocket when we get sick, but we eat a lot of veggies and play in the sun, so we're not sick too often, and check-ups are covered as well as the big stuff you want to have insurance for.
Under ANY bill requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions, our current insurance would cease to be available. Why would anyone pay for ongoing coverage when they could just begin coverage when they needed it? That would bankrupt private insurance, OUR CURRENT PLAN, and leave us with only the government option. And despite the benevolence of the library system, or good roads, or any other beneficial uses of government you can think of, what rational, intelligent American wants his or her health care politicized? When the conservatives are in control, think prohibition laws to cut-down on drinking related costs. When the liberals have the power, conservatives, your money will be funding abortions.
Contrary to the "talking points" of the Obama website, my Representatives ARE representing me when they fight this health care scam tooth and nail. Let all the intelligent, sound-minded citizens of this country stand up and tell our government to back off from this attempt to run our lives!
And thanks to Organizing for America for sending this out to my Newspaper!
