Some parents not concerned about second-hand smoke

(UNEDITED)The commercial starts with a baby crying. It's heart wrenching. Then the baby starts coughing and it makes you want to cry. All you see is a baby monitor and then a hand reaches over to turn it off.

How do they blame that on tobacco companies? We all know tobacco companies don't care about people who smoke. They certainly don't care about the people who suffer from the effects of second-hand smoke, including babies and children.

How about placing the blame where it belongs, on the parents who care more about their own pleasure than the health of their children. After all, it was a parent who reached over to turn the baby monitor off. I smoked for many years so I know how difficult it is to quit. I also know the pleasure derived from smoking, and because of that pleasure, many don't even consider quitting. However, I do not understand parents who continue to smoke in the presence of their babies, or their children who apparently suffer from the effects of second-hand smoke. How difficult is it to step outside, or wait until the car trip is over to light up? If you say it is indeed difficult, then I believe you're saying the health of your children is not that important to you.

You step outside at work or wait until your next break for a smoke because the law requires it. You don't smoke in bars or restaurants or even most parks for the same reason. Maybe they should make it against the law to smoke in homes or cars with children present? I would hope, out of love for your children, you would resist the temptation to smoke until they are out of your presence. No law is required if common sense takes hold.
