Children at school are getting too much homework and they need to have time to live their lives once in a while. Just this past weekend, I had Spanish, social studies and science tests to study for and I had to write this essay, finish making a pinata, complete a Spanish worksheet, do math problems, write 30 vocabulary words and read part of a book. What makes matters worse is that most of the time, I don't learn anything from doing the homework; a lot of homework is just busy-work.
Most schools aren't even allowed to send homework over the weekend, but teachers have been breaking that rule. What can I as a student do about it? Every day after school I have several hours of homework. After school, twice a week, I have dance. On Wednesdays, I have dance from 4-9 P.M. and I don't get home until after 9:30 p.m.
Sometimes I have to stay up until 11:00 or 11:30 at night to get my homework done. I know that other kids have similar problems, and if we are up that late doing homework, then we are too tired to pay attention at school and will most likely forget what we learned when doing our homework.
Everyone needs to have time to play and live their lives while they are young, not doing work their whole lives.
