Residents should be grateful we have medical centers and hospitals across the Top of Utah that provide the highest quality of medical expertise and service. Another example of such excellence is news that the Davis Hospital and Medical Center has received $7 million from its parent company, IASIS Healthcare, to build two operating suites and provide more cancer treatment equipment.
The news means that many Davis County residents won't have to leave the county to receive treatment for cancer. The money will help pay for a linear accelerator, which provides a dose of high-energy X-ray to a tumor. It is for cancer patients who do not need the similar TomoTherapy treatment, which is already available at the hospital.
It is designed to treat simpler types of cancer, including skin cancer, and is designed to reduce pain caused by the disease.
"By providing these new cancer treatment technologies, we'll offer our physicians and patients some of the most advanced medical technology to treat a wide variety of conditions with even greater precision without having to travel outside of the area for this advanced care," hospital CEO Michael Jensen said.
The additional operating suites are designed to meet new patient numbers at the hospital, which has seen growth consistently during its 34 years. The suites will also house additional staff and equipment. The additions and new technology are expected to be ready for use by this fall.
As mentioned, we support anything that can be done in medical care that helps save lives and increases the quality of service and we're glad to see these improvements at Davis hospital.
