(UNEDITED)Ogden's Mayor Godfrey has his fans. The local paper seems to favor him, even though they left downtown during Godfrey's term in office. And some on the city council always vote his way. Still other council members vote with Godfrey on occasion to appear diplomatic, and to avoid criticism from the newspaper's editors.
Thank goodness some are not so foolish. Recently, the County Commission said no to Godfrey's idiotic biodiesel trolley. And the RAMP committee turned thumbs down to Godfrey's expensive and absurd velodrome idea.
But Godfrey's shocking plans for the east bench are proceeding. City residents gagging on their massive water bills should know the money is slated to build a 1.25 million gallon water tank high on the bench, to service Godfrey's motel and condo project at the golf course.
Some may wonder why our golf course is always in Godfrey's crosshairs. But a look at Godfrey's list of big campaign contributors makes everything clear. It's a list of contractors and real estate people. They're licking their chops to turn our unspoiled, virgin east bench into a sea of stucco mini mansions and condos.
This would annihilate Ogden's most cherished asset, and lower the property value of most homes in Ogden. But it would generate millions in fees for Godfrey's backers. Like Ted Bundy with college coeds, these people have their own way of treating virgin land before they move on.
People should remember that our virgin bench land will never be safe while Godfrey is in office.
