The recent defeat of Senator Robert Bennett brings up an interesting point. Whose in control of the Republican Party? It appears a group of ultra right wing conservatives are in charge. I consider myself a conservative, but not ultra right wing. I don't believe the majority of the Republican Party in Utah are ultra right wing, yet we are letting a small group control our destiny. I believe the majority of Utah Republicans would have supported Senator Bennett for another term. He holds several committee assignments in the Senate that are vital to Utah.
These are now lost to Utah as we plan to send a Junior Senator with what appears to be little or no political experience to a Democratically controlled Senate.
The ultra right wing is now targeting Senator Hatch who is up for election in two years.
Senator Hatch is one the most respected Senators in Congress. He recently had a one on one meeting with President Obama to discuss the next Supreme Court nomination. The President would not have ask Senator Hatch for a one on one conference unless he considered him one of the most respected and influential Senators in the Republican Party. If we don't do something we are going to lose another great Senator.
I basically agree with the Tea Party movement, something needs to be done because Washington is in a mess, but lets not "throw out the baby with the bath water."
