(UNEDITED) All the leashes in the world couldn't hold back our family of humans and Mini Schnauzers when we learned there was an off leash dog park in Roy!
Dubbed the "high voltage park" by the regulars, the area is nothing more than a fenced in drainage pond under the busy buzz of power lines that could jump start your car if you merely wave the cables in the air. Do it yourself pace maker patients know how adjust their devices by just driving slowly under the wires. The park was paradise shaped like a square doggie dish. The abundant foxtails added texture to the play, the gaps under the fence hinted of escape, and the ever present mud puddle was a beautiful water feature. The drainage tunnel at the north end adds a dangerous element and is occupied by a schnauzer eating monster!
As spring turned to summer, talk in Roy turned to of a place in South Ogden that would soon open for the season; a nicer dog park. Oh, what a canine wonderland exists in the South Ogden's dog park. It had a double gated entry, clean up bags at every turn, and enormous bowls of water for all four footed friends to share. A slope of trees and trails meets a flat grassy play area with a variety of seating for the humans to gather and admire the dogs.
We didn't think a dog's life could get any better until we heard of a new dog park opening in Ogden. Our pack seriously doubts that all dogs go to heaven (we have our eyes on you, Chihuahuas!!) but all dogs can go to the heavenly park in Ogden by the river. It has multiple secure double gated entrances and fresh water sources to fill infinite water bowls. The hillside and grass is great for romping, the agility course is fun for both owners and dogs, but the designated big dog and little dog play areas makes it hard to convince our Mini Schnauzers they aren't a pack of Rottweilers.
With so many great options available, we don't often go back to the first park we fell in love with, the Roy dog park. I can only promise when the other dog parks close for winter, we will return as foul-weather fans.
