(UNEDITED)While I do not defend a strict Libertarian approach to politics, I find the word is being used very loosly lately. True Libertarianism allows others to behave as they will as long as they do not harm others. That would mean the owners of private property could build whatever they wanted within code restrictions, be it a mega-church and university, a mosque, or a strip club.
That would mean allowing symbolic actions, be it burning "Catcher in the Rye", or Korans, or flags. Utah has come out against a Florida pastor burning Koans and our good Orrin Hatch was the promulgator of the anti-flag burning amendment.
That would mean the state and federal government have no part in deciding who can marry. A defense of marriage amendment shouldnot be needed.
"Libertarian" is not a word that is applicable to the Tea Party, the Utah legislature, or Glenn Beck. The applicable term is "patriarchal"; everybody is free to do it my way because my way is right.
