(UNEDITED)Another Sunday morning, another jolt when opening the paper to the editorial page and, again, seeing John Reynolds' smug, smirking face peering out from the page. OK, who's Dad is he at the paper, anyway? Just hire him and get it over with. Nobody should get this much coverage from the only paper in Ogden. But Ogden is not enough for this egomaniac. I fully expect to see this latest in the next issue of the Valley News, like we don't get the Standard up here. This Sunday's (usual) diatribe against the Nation's President should have appeared in the Religion Section. He's having a Glenn-Beck-moment because in one of the President's many, many speeches he left out the words "by our Creator" when quoting from the Declaration of Independence.
By Glenn Beck standards this makes him undeserving to be our President, somehow. Reynolds takes this one-time omission of three words by the President and parlays it into accusations of consciously not giving God credit for creating our Democracy and implying that this must be the root cause of all, in his view, the President's failings.
Tucked in there amongst the clutter of Glenn Beck stolen ideas is the Right's newest charge against the President - that he is doing nothing. OMG, which is it? He's done too much to push his liberal agenda or done nothing? For God's sake, you can't have it both ways you dingbats!
But my favorite paragraph by Reynolds is the idea that the Country is currently broken as it was before the Constitution was signed. Excuse me, but when did we throw out that signed Constitution? We didn't. And to suggest that we do not function under it as many on the Right would like you to believe now that we have a black President is lunacy, racism, and it's downright unpatriotic.
Reynolds pokes fun at today's liberal humorists, Colbert, Stewart, and Senator Franken (who hasn't told a joke since he ran for the Senate), calling them clowns. I think he longs for the days when he saw Will Rogers and Bob Hope in person. You see, the only comedians he sees today are Beck, Hannity and Limbaugh. I've got to admit, they are hilarious to watch. "Don't Taze me, Bro!"
