(UNEDITED)Halloween is coming and I would like to help prevent a common misguided if albeit good purposed occurrence. There are many "Trunk or Treat" events promoted locally, and although I am supportive of their purpose: to give out candy in a safe environment, these events are commonly being sponsored by individual churches or organizations, without regard to the other children in their neighborhood. The problem is in that the children attending these sponsored events attend the "Trunk or Treat", and then those parents are not participating in the door to door celebration that all the other children in their neighborhood would like to participate in. Basically, in our attempt to provide a safe environment for our children to celebrate, we inadvertently have disregarded other children in our community. If these events would be city or community sponsored, they would then include all the children in the area, but individual events exclude those children, and this is an injustice to all the standards that we so prevalently expound in our State. For those parents that choose to participate in their sponsored "Trunk or Treat", I would ask that they also participate in the door to door distribution so that they do not exclude any local children.
