Christmas Tree Jubilee will benefit special-needs kids

To all those who are responsible for the Christmas Tree Jubilee held in Ogden every year, a huge thank you! As the parent of a special-needs child in the Weber School District, I have seen the enormous benefit that the funds raised at this event have provided to children whose parents are not able to provide special help for their very special children themselves. These kids are every bit as needy as those helped by the festival held in the city to our south, and the benefits as great. Putting on this event takes a huge amount of time and effort from the organizers, from all the volunteers, from those who buy trees to be decorated, and from those who decorate the trees themselves. Thank you for keeping your trees in Ogden!

And, another huge thank you to those who buy the trees! Every year surpasses the year before. The trees are always beautiful. For those who have never purchased a tree at the jubilee, they might consider it this year. Nothing beats buying a beautifully decorated tree and having it delivered right to your home. Moreover, the price is usually less than they would pay if they bought an artificial tree, lights and ornaments. After the holiday they can just carry the tree to the garage and it will be ready for another year--no work ever again! And, it is tax deductible for even more savings!

For those who purchase trees at the auction on Tuesday night, Nov. 23 at the Ogden Eccles Center, please remember that this is an enormously deserving charity and should be thought of as such when bidding. It is obvious when I see some of the purchase prices on the trees down south, that those buyers consider this a donation, with the benefit of a tree for themselves and a tax deduction thrown in. Many of those trees are then donated to schools, hospitals, group homes etc. and many grace the offices of businesses. Whatever the case, please remember that in this economy we need support more than ever. Thank you for bidding and thank you for keeping your donation in Ogden!
